Roman Holiday

Roman Holiday

Plot: "Roman Holiday" is a romantic comedy set in Rome and tells the story of a young princess named Ann, heir to the throne of a nation not specified which makes a trip to the major european capitals: London, Amsterdam, Paris and finally Rome. The princess is tired of the responsibility and of the meetings that her role requires and dreams to experience the pleasures of daily to an ordinary person. One night, in the throes of a crisis of nerves, is calmed by his private doctor but, despite this, she decides to escape: slips out a window and finds herself alone on the streets of Rome.

The film is a veritable showcase of Rome, an exhibition of all the monuments and most beautiful places of the city: not really missing anything, from the Trevi Fountain to the Pantheon, from via Margutta to the Roman Forum, from the Trinita de' Monti to the Mouth of Truth. These places are the main core of the film, within which is inserted a romantic story that is reminiscent of the fable of Cinderella or Pretty Woman, but, on the contrary.

The first scene filmed in Rome is the one represented by the roman residence of the princess, set in the majestic palazzo Barberini, with its imposing entrance on via delle Quattro Fontane; the beginning of the "roman holiday", in a small truck, takes place at the Republic square, where the princess got out  for her tour; the meeting with Gregory Peck, with a semi-sleeping Hepburn takes place at via della Curia with the Arch of Septimius Severus behind; the taxi leads the two in the apartment in via Margutta 51; the walk of Ann allows to admire the Trevi Fountain (the barber shop where the princess gets her hair cut is located in via della Stamperia), the Stairs of Trinità dei Monti and the Pantheon, where the two sit at the "Coffee rock" in via della Rotonda. Then the tour starts on the Vespa, which will become the symbol of the film: we recognize the via del Teatro Marcello (with the Monastery of the Oblates and the Vittoriano in the background), the Colosseum, Villa Medici, the church of Trinità de' Monti, via Sistina (the loggia of palazzo Zuccari), piazza Venezia, piazza del Gesù and largo di Torre Argentina. The commissioner, where the two are conducted after they have been throught a lot with Ann driving the Vespa, is set in the building of the former Pantanella pasta factory; follows another famous and curious scene turned at the Mouth of the Truth, or rather the moment in which Gregory Peck sticks his hand into the gap, pretending he had lost it and hiding it in his jacket.

The film follows with the scene shot below the ponte S. Angelo: here, the two, tracked by secret agents in search of the princess, they escape by swimming towards the ponte Vittorio Emanuele II. The final scene of the press conference of the princess is turned in the inside of the palazzo Colonna, in the beautiful "Great Hall".
